What is a VRF system and how does it work?
VRF systems equivalent to Variable Refrigerant Flow refer to the variable flow of fluid in the internal panels of the cooler and are one of the advanced HVAC systems that were first introduced in 1982 by the Japanese company Daiclean. These systems are one of the most modern and at the same time the most sensitive air conditioning systems that provide cooling and heating for the building at the same time. VRF systems are usually used in office buildings, hotels and large commercial buildings.
VRF systems are similar to air conditioners with several internal units, which are internal units inside the building and in different areas and external units (condensing which consists of condenser and compressor) in the open environment and on the roof. Types of VRF system based on function
VRF systems are divided into three categories in terms of function:
1- Cooling or cooling VRF system:
These systems are the simplest type of VRF system, which only has the ability to cool, and these systems cool the building space only in the summer through the indoor unit.
2- VRF heating and cooling system:
The difference between this type of system and the cooling VRF system is that it can be used for heating the environment in winter, and a heat pump is used to produce heating. The operation of this type of system is such that when the external unit is in cooling mode, all the internal panels can only cool the space and it is not possible to use two modes of cooling and heating at the same time. These systems are also known as two-pipe or heat pump systems.
3- VRF system with heat recovery:
These systems are more advanced than the two types of systems mentioned and provide the possibility of simultaneous heating and cooling of all zones of a building.
