What is a VRF system and how does it work?
VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems refer to the variable flow of fluid in the internal panels of the cooler and are one of the advanced HVAC systems that were first introduced in 1982 by the Japanese company Daiclean. These systems are one of the most modern and at the same time the most sensitive air conditioning systems that provide cooling and heating for the building at the same time. VRF systems are usually used in office buildings, hotels and large commercial buildings.
VRF systems are similar to air conditioners with several indoor units, which are indoor units inside the building and different areas and the outdoor unit (condensing which consists of a condenser and compressor) in the open environment and on the roof of the building. It can be installed. VRF systems such as splits use R410A refrigerant gas for cooling and heating, the refrigerant gas is circulated in a circuit by an external panel between several internal panels. Due to the sensitivity of VRF systems, their implementation should be done by experts so that the entire system does not suffer in case of the smallest defect in the design or implementation.
Different parts of the VRF system
- Compressors - Subcooler converters - Oil separator - HOT Gas control valve - Safety valves - Expansion valves - Accumulator
Types of VRF system based on function
VRF systems are divided into three categories in terms of function: 1-Cooling or cooling VRF system: These systems are the simplest type of VRF system that has only cooling capability and these systems cool the building space only in the summer season through the indoor unit. 2- Heating and cooling VRF system: The difference between this type of system and the cooling VRF system is that it can be used for heating the environment in the winter season and a heat pump is used to generate heat. The operation of this type of system is such that when the external unit is in cooling mode, all internal panels can only cool the space and it is not possible to use both cooling and heating modes at the same time. These systems are also known as two-pipe or heat pump systems. 3- VRF system with heat recovery: these systems are more advanced than the two types of systems mentioned and provide the possibility of simultaneously heating and cooling all zones of a building.
